Don’t Mess with Grandma Stickley

I have been arrested in some of the strangest places.

I was arrested one time on my way into a “Johnny on the Spot” at an outdoor concert when I asked an off duty cop to hold the joint I was smoking.

Three months in drug rehab.

Another time I was driving a friend’s car when the tire blew out. The cop who stopped to help me found a trunk full of stolen appliances. I still have no idea where they came from. I swear.

Six months in juvenile hall.

Then there was the time I was arrested getting off a roller coaster holding a purse that someone had left on the ride. The owner of the purse claimed that I had stolen it from her.

Nine months in juvenile hall.

The next time I was arrested it was for stealing money from a little old lady. This time I confessed right away. The cops hauled me in front of the woman and asked her to identify me. I started bawling my head off. She took one look at me and dropped all the charges. It was only fifty dollars she said and I obviously needed it more than she did. I explained to her after the cops left that I needed the money to buy food for my three little sisters and I would pay her back as soon as I could.

Honesty IS the best policy.

The cops have picked me up on a few occasions since then but every time the little old ladies involved drop the charges. They were all mistaken. They hadn’t been robbed after all. Seems none of them needed the money as badly as a poor, young man trying to help out his family.
